Dance Freedom for March 10
Dance Freedom's format is essentially the same every Wednesday night. Around 6:30 pm people who have volunteered to setup the room meet and are instructed by a setup coordinator as to where what and how to setup for the dance. The first half DJ and Facilitator for the night usually chip in too. At 7:30 pm the setup is complete and the dance has officially started. First there is a warm-up session which last until around 7:50 pm. The warm-up session frequently consists of soft DJ music and there is very little dancing. Then the Facilitator for the night gets everyone together for the first dance. Everyone gathers around a centerpiece and holds hands and dances around to soft music for a song. That's when the First half of the DJ dance begins. Around 8:50 pm The first half is complete and everyone gathers around again and sits. This part of the night is called the Middle and it usually lasts about a half hour. This is an opportunity for introductions and community announcements to happen. Usually there is also a "Middle" which consists of a volunteered artistic performance from someone in the community. Once the announcements and/or Middle performance is over, at around 9:20 pm. The Facilitator asks the dancers to stand and she leads them in another circle dance to open up the Second half of dancing. The second half of dancing lasts until around 10:25 pm, at which point there is one final circle dance to complete the night. The dancers are always encouraged to help take-down at this point so that we can be out of the space by 11PM. For more information, E-mail: [masked] Dance Freedom About this Meetup Group

Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, and Kelly Link: A Discussion Panel on Young Adult Fiction
Location:
Coolidge Corner Theater
290 Harvard St
Brookline, MA 02446-2917

Description:
Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, and Kelly Link:
A Discussion Panel on Young Adult Fiction To celebrate the publication of her first collection of short stories, The Poison Eaters (Big Mouth House â?¢ February 23, 2010 â?¢ trade cloth â?¢ $17.95 â?¢ ISBN: 978-1-931520-63-8 â?¢ pages: 256 â?¢ ages 14+), New York Times best-selling author Holly Black will participate in a panel discussion on Young Adult Fiction at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Boston on March 11th. Joining her are her friends and fellow local authors Kelly Link (Pretty Monsters) and Cassandra Clare (The Mortal Instruments), answering reader-submitted questions. These three authors are some of the hottest in the Young Adult Field, each garnering immense critical and popular acclaim. All fans are invited to email their questions for the authors to hollycassandrakelly@gmail.com, and the questions will be answered whether or not the person is present. Questions will be taken from the audience as well. There will be giveaways for the attendees, and afterward all three authors will sign their books at the Brookline Booksmith. Refreshments will be served. All ticket and book sales will be donated to the Franciscan Hospital for Children. The panel discussion as fundraiser was suggested by Holly Black. Blackâ??s new book, The Poison Eaters and Other Stories, is being published by Big Mouth House, an imprint of Small Beer Press, an independent press run by Kelly Link and her husband, Gavin Grant. Link and Grantâ??s Easthampton, MA, office is in the same shambling old refitted warehouse as Blackâ??s. While Blackâ??s collection was in the planning stages (back in February 2009), Link and Grantâ??s daughter Ursula was born at 24 weeks and 1-1/2 lbs. Ursula and her parents spent her first five months at Baystate Medical Center, and she is now in a pulmonary rehabilitation ward at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton (Boston). News of this event was featured in the Publishers Weekly Childrenâ??s Bookshelf. Review copies of The Poison Eaters are available, and all three participating authors are available for interview. Fun Night! At The Boston Living Center!
The Boston Living Center has been kind enough to let us host a board game night at their facility in an effort by us to collect personal care items for some of their members. The Boston Living Center provides services and programs to people living with HIV/AIDS, and many of their members are homeless or precariously housed and are in constant need of items such as toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, tooth brushes, etc. I'm asking all attendees to bring at least one of these items with you to donate to the Center, or multiple items if you prefer. Also bring a board game, or cards with you if you like, and we should end up having a fun time while helping a great cause. Due to the size of the room available to us by the BLC, I have to limit the amount of attendees to 15 but If there is a lot of interest in doing events of this nature in the future then please let me know. I'd love to help this organization and others like it as much as we possibly can!

Birth Order
Herb is going to be leading a very interesting workshop about birth order. Here is a description from Herb: Ã?Â"Birth order is important in terms of how it affects your personality. Find out how you are influenced whether you are first born, middle, last, twins, an only child, as well as other unique orders. Find out what options you have to balance what mother nature dealt you and how to relate to others of different birth order.Ã?Â" The suggested minimum cost of attending the workshop is $15.00. A sliding scale of any amount is allowed if the cost would otherwise prevent you from coming. The traditional cost of this workshop has been $40.00 so if you can afford more than $15.00, it helps the presenter and those who pay less. Refreshments will be served. We are also welcomed to bring and share our own food as long as there is not any meat in it.

Who else likes to meet new people? Do you want to meet new people who share similar values We will discuss what's new and share new idea's. Afterwards we will mingle and meet new people. A couple of the topics we will discuss are: 1. Which volunteer events would you like to see more of? 2. Where else can we promote our group? I already promote via Craigslist and Facebook. Can you think of any better means? 3. People usually approach me after this Meetup and ask if they can lead events for their causes. If this sounds like you then this is the perfect event for you. Please pre-contemplate these three questions and write down an answer or two. We will also discuss other topics and meet new people. Josh P.S. This is typically one of our most popular meetups. The meetup size is limited only because we usually run out of seats. P.P.S. Most members of this event are already connected to our Facebook page. Conservation & Gardening At Mary Cummings Park Interested in conserving open land and wildlife? Interested in volunteering to help run a childrenÃ?Â's educational gardening program? Come learn about beautiful Mary Cummings Park and the effort to protect it. Mary Cummings Park is 210 acres of public land that was left in trust to the City of Boston by Mary Cummings for the purpose of keeping the land forever open as a public pleasure ground. It offers fields, forests, trails, wetlands, and a variety of wildlife habitats. The park is located just inside Route 128/95 in Burlington and Woburn. It is ideal for many activities. For many years the Boston Public Schools ran a summer gardening program for school aged children at the park. The program was called Ã?Â"Woburn GardensÃ?Â". The need and demand for this kind of summer program has not diminished since the funding was cut in 1991. Friends of Mary Cummings Park is a 501.c.3 non-profit organization dedicated to conserving and enhancing the intended use of the park for recreation and as a natural wildlife habitat. www.cummingspark.org. Please visit our web site to learn about the park and our goals on the Park Vision page. We seeking to restart the gardening program. For our proposal to be successful we must show there many people who have committed to gardening at the park this summer. We are seeking your help contacting individuals and groups, in Boston and communities surrounding the park, who might be interested in supporting the program as a sponsor, a gardener and/or as a volunteer. Anyone interested in gardening may reserve a 20Ã?Â' X 20Ã?Â' plot for a nominal $20 fee which is refundable if the program is not approved. Transportation from Boston to the gardens will be provided for children participating in the program. Details about reserving a plot can be found on our web site. Once we have ten or more Boston residents and a total of twenty-five people definitely interested we will submit a proposal to the City of Boston seeking permission. This needs to happen quickly if there is any hope of planting in the 2010 growing season. We want to attract a wide range of gardeners from children to adults. Groups such as YMCA, Girls/Boys Clubs, Churches, Boy/Girl Scouts could plant a plot as a summer project. We recommend that gardeners donate excess produce to a local neighborhood food pantries. Our hope is that the gardening program will become a focal point of information, education and community activity. I look forward to hearing from you. BATV Documentary Film Club March Meetup
Thank you to everyone who came out last night for The Cove! It was a great group of people and a thought-provoking movie. Some people mentioned Tuesday nights weren't convenient for them, and we had some parking issues due to other events at the high school, so for March let's try to meet on Monday night and see if that works better for everyone. That means our next meetup is less than a few short weeks away, on MONDAY March 15th at 7pm. We've already seen two Oscar nominated documentaries. Last night it was suggested we watch last year's Academy Awards Winner Best Documentary Film Man on Wire, so let's do it! I hope to see everyone there! Krissie What: Man on Wire, Directed by James Marsh When: MONDAY, March 15th, 2010 at 7pm Where: BATV, 46 Tappan Street Brookline On August 7th 1974, a young Frenchman named Philippe Petit stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between New York's twin towers, then the worlds tallest buildings. After nearly an hour dancing on the wire, he was arrested, taken for psychological evaluation, and brought to jail before he was finally released. Following six and a half years of dreaming of the towers, Petit spent eight months in New York City planning the execution of the coup. Aided by a team of friends and accomplices, Petit was faced with numerous extraordinary challenges: he had to find a way to bypass the WTCs security; smuggle the heavy steel cable and rigging equipment into the towers; pass the wire between the two rooftops; anchor the wire and tension it to withstand the winds and the swaying of the buildings. The rigging was done by night in complete secrecy. At 7:15 AM, Philippe took his first step on the high wire 1,350 feet above the sidewalks of Manhattan James Marshs documentary brings Petits extraordinary adventure to life through the testimony of Philippe himself, and some of the co-conspirators who helped him create the unique and magnificent spectacle that became known as the artistic crime of the century.

Dance Freedom for March 17

Friday Night Supper Program (FNSP)
From http://www.fridaynightsupper.org We provide nutritious, home-cooked meals to the homeless and hungry people of Boston in a safe and dignified environment every Friday night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. FNSP serves approximately 130 meals every Friday to some of BostonÃ?Â's most vulnerable citizens, many of whom face a constant struggle not only for food but for understanding and friendship as well. We pride ourselves on providing both nourishment for the body through food and for the soul through dignity and respect. We also seek and value the opinions of the people we serve. FNSP is committed to: * Serving as much fresh food as possible with an emphasis on nutritional value * Providing basic needs such as clothing and toiletries for our guests * Offering a sense of security, abundance, and choice to those who have limited or no access to these very basic essentials. We have been serving 13,000 meals a year to those in need every Friday night since 1984. I've been volunteering at FSNP for about 4 months, it's an amazing operation. It runs like clockwork. Between 5 and 7 we serve approximately 130 meals, clean up, and leave the place like we were never there. And it's been happening since 1984. It's busy and it's fun. Please RSVP yes only if you can definitely make it for the entire shift 5-7pm. FNSP schedules the number of volunteers it uses each week, so if anyone doesn't show up it really impacts the program. If your plans change, please change your reply ASAP so I can try to fill the spot. Location: FNSP is located in the basement of the Arlington Street Church at the intersection of Arlington and Boylston Streets in the Back Bay section of Boston. The program entrance is just off Arlington Street in Public Alley 438 (between Boylston and Newbury Streets). Go down the stairs, ring the bell if the doors are not open yet. Public Trans: The church is right to next the Arlington St. station (Green Line) P.S. Most members of this event are already connected to our Facebook page.
